January 2024

We have hit the ground running into 2024

The ongoing drainage issues have gained traction with the release of John Culleton’s report, the Coastal Floodplain Prioritisation Studies and the Coastal Floodplain Drainage Project Option reports – all being released in the week before Christmas. It’s not surprising that Johns report was held onto for so long given the slamming he gives government departments and their red tape.

The Pesticide pollution in the Richmond is not going away. Ross has been in contact with Queensland Canegrowers about reef issues and how they handle negative press , and what proactive measures we can introduce. Potentially developing Farm Management Plan templates and implementation of a “Project 25” type, water quality monitoring program that emphasises industry ownership and control of monitoring design and delivery of locally targeted water quality data to provide confidence in on-farm decision making and practice change.

Jamie Brown, from The Land, has been in contact asking for the best contact to interview regarding DPI Drain Management Plan Report. Chris Connors suggested forming a team but it was decided it should be a grower with hands on experience.

 We are also looking into

  • Updating the Associations Rules
  • Association Liability insurance,
  • HR law changes and if they affect the Association.
  • Measuring Carbon footprint of cane farms.
