Here is a brief update of the correspondence.
Works have started on drain cleaning, letters advising of the start were sent to J Saffin, T Smith, R Williamson, K Hogan and M Watt with thanks for their support. We received responses from all of them.
Several Fire ant updates were received.
Richard Beatie and Darran Boote attended a meeting on Blue Carbon on the 31st of May convened by Pat Dwyer from DPI Fisheries. He sent us his notes and a copy of the presentation.
NSW Farmers held a carbon farming workshop. Basically land has to be locked up for a minimum of 25 years to get any benefit from what they were offering.
Sandra Hawken requested some more information on Insurance hardening to present to NSW Farmers, we supplied some examples of insurance increases and issues growers have had.
The minutes to the AGM and Half yearly meeting were completed and sent out.
Information regarding conditional registration was sort and distributed.
Letters were sent to R Jackson, P Scully, J Dib, J Saffin and T Smith requesting their support in parliament of Ballina Councils Drainage solutions.
We received a complaint from a local who found cane ash in his pool and demanded compensation. Our lawyer advised “The Right to Farm Act 2015 provides that commercial agricultural activities do not constitute nuisance so long as the activity is carried out lawfully and not negligently and that the type of activity has been carried out on the land for at least 12 months”. The advice was distributed via email to all growers advising of the increasing scrutiny on cane growers and that everyone needs to be careful to ensure they are not placed in a situation where they bear an onus of proof to demonstrate they have not been negligent.
The Farm management plan template was finalised and sent out.
The Term deposit has been released.
Numerous administration emails were sent and received.
The harvest season is in full swing with many paddocks well above estimate. Let’s hope this good weather holds.
