Welcome to the Activity update for the month of August 2024 for the NSWCGA.
The season start has been problematic with wet weather, mill issues and transport complications affecting the harvest. Having paddocks well above estimate is also slowing things down. Hopes of being finished by 30th November are being dashed. Let’s hope this good weather holds.
Here is a brief update of the correspondence.
Fire Ant Industry and Council Collaboration Network sent through an update with links to Guideline on meeting the General Biosecurity Obligation for businesses that move red imported fire ant carriers and a Surveillance and treatment record.
The proposed regulation changes to the use of Paraquat and diquat have hit the news, we have spread the word far and wide along with surveys from SRA and NSW Farmers. Many discussions around the issue have taken place and advice has been requested.
If you haven’t filled out the SRA Survey please do so here.
Numerous complaints around cane fires have been delt with and legal advice sent to growers.
The ATO has introduced a new “Not for Profit” review which may involve us having to change the Rules to include wording around distribution of funds. This will have to be discussed at a meeting and voted on.
Tamara Smith has sent several general communication letters.
The Term deposit has been reinvested for 3 months at 4.6% with BCU.
Numerous administration emails were sent and received.
The Canegrower Magazine requested information for an article on the season start.
