Welcome to the NSWCGA activity update for the month of September 2024
The harvest is in full swing and associated dramas with mills, transport and wet weather continue.
We missed an important letter in our last update from Tamara Smith that was sent directly to Ross. It thanked Ross Farlow, Patrick O’Connor and Mick O’Connor for their tireless efforts in initiating the Northern Rivers drainage reset program. You can read it here.
Joanna Quilty responded on behalf of the Hon Jihad Dib to the letter we sent in July about the Northern Rivers Agricultural Drainage Reset Program. The Minister asked the NSW Reconstruction Authority (RA) to respond directly on his behalf. You can read the response here.
Tara Moriarty replied to our letter about Northern Rivers Drainage solutions referring the matter to DPHI and Fisheries.
As with every season we have had a few complaints about ash and smoke from cane fires, one this is season threatening legal action, which has prompted this office to rewrite the outdated Burning Question document. We will distribute it when it is finalized. We have also been advised by Pickering Law that it would be in our best interests to have a generic safe work procedure/ risk assessment for burning cane that all growers can adapt to their operation.
There has been a stream of correspondence around the new requirements for NFP associations. Kerryanne has drafted new clauses for the rules that will have to be voted on at the next AGM.
Links to the correspondence journals for August is below itemising the flow of correspondence through this office for NSWCGA.
